Family Medicine Site Visit reflection

For my family medicine rotation we had Professor Sadat as our site evaluator. For this specific rotation we had one meeting/evaluation and met on blackboard ultra on our last week of the rotation. This gave us plenty of time to get the most out of our rotation and have a plethora of different experiences to talk about.   For our Evalution we wrote 3 complete history and physicals, did one journal article summary, and had 5 pharm cards. We presented one H&P and then talked about our journal article. I thought this was a very well and organized meeting, as we presented on the cases that we wrote …

Family Medicine Rotation Reflection

I had my 4th rotation in South Shore Primary care for Family Medicine in Far Rockaway. Here we worked with a very small team that included a secretary, a medical assistant/student, the PA and the other fellow PA students. We saw cases that ranged from annual well visits, to sinus congestions, to chest pain. As we were a primary care clinic, we did not have any walk in patients, however we did have telehealth visits. I really enjoyed this rotation because as students we were given a lot of responsibility since there was only one main provider here. This allowed us to feel more involved in patient care and feel like we …

Family Medicine Journal Article Summary

Management of Post acute COVID 19 in primary care  Greenhalgh T, Knight M, A’Court C, Buxton M, Husain L. Management of post-acute covid-19 in primary care BMJ 2020;  https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3026 I chose to do my journal article summary based on my H&P 3 which was about my patient who has been having nonproductive cough for 1 month since having COVID 19. She was concerned since all of her tests came back negative, yet she was still having these lingering symptoms. I know it is common for a patient to have post viral symptoms such as cough, but since COVID is still such a novel disease of our generation, I wanted to do more …

Psych Site visit reflection

We had our Psych site visits with Dr. Saint Martin who did the meetings via Zoom. We all met online and presented an H&P that we discussed together. Prior to this he sent us a document that stated how he wanted us to write said H&Ps since psych documents are very different and a lot more detailed then regular medicine H&Ps. This was challenging at first, as I didn’t know what was relevant and how much to include, but then realized that in this field, the more detail you put in the better. For the histories of these patients it was also very important to include collateral information, which we …

Psych Rotation Reflection

I did my Psych rotation at Queens Hospital Center with 2 of my fellow classmates and had a great experience! I went into this rotation with no intention of enjoying psychiatry or even ever wanting to do it in the future, but I was pleasantly surprised. I found that this field has a lot more to offer then I gave it credit for, and doing the rotation at the QHC Psychiatric emergency department was a great way to get an overall look at the emergent psych condition and how we can treat them. In CPEP we were only able to hold patients involuntarily for up to 72 hours, then had to make …

Psych: Journal Article and Summary

Cannabis induced psychosis and subsequent psychiatric disorders  Dharav Shah, Prabhat Chand, Mrunal Bandawar, Vivek Benegal, Pratima Murthy, Cannabis induced psychosis and subsequent psychiatric disorders, Asian Journal of Psychiatry, Volume 30, Published 2017  https://www-sciencedirect-com.york.ezproxy.cuny.edu/science/article/pii/S187620181730388X I wanted to look up a article based on the first patient that I presented in H&P 1, about the young female who suffered from auditory hallucinations and bizarre behavior under the influence of cannabis. I found that various substances can lead to substance induced psychosis, and cannabis is one of them. Long term use can lead to one suffering from auditory and visual hallucinations, and be out of touch with reality.   This articles talks about how Cannabis is one of the most abused drugs in the world, despite its …
